so without further ado, lets jump to the Thappad Movie review.

Thappad Storyline

Thappad tells us a story of a woman living a tough life. The lead role Amrita played by Taapsee is a housewife married happily, in Delhi, to Vikram played by Pavail Gulati.

She treasures him like anything. He is the center of gravity in her life. Most of her time is spent on caring for mother-in-law (Tanvi Azmi).

Luckily Vikram gets a chance of working in London. So he throws a party on the good news night at his house. Everything looks like a dream until his superior calls him. The boss informs Vikram that he would not be given the position he wished for but would have to work under somebody else.

This is a shock to Vikram, as it is something that has turned out to be totally beyond his calculations. He picks this up with Rajhans, another senior, who is coincidently at the party that night. Things start to get out of hand. Meanwhile, Amrita tries to cool him down.

In the heat of the moment, he slaps her on her face. This is something out of the blue for her. In the coming time, she tries to move on but fails in her attempts to forget this incident. Vikram soon realizes his mistake and tries to apologize and amend the terms, but remains unlucky.

She moves to her parent’s house the roles played by Kumud Mishra and Ratna Pathak Shah. Vikram tries to stop her. Later visits the in-laws to convince her to get back home. But here she is adamant and declines his pleadings.

Out of desperation Vikram then sends a legal notice to her. Amrita’s brother Karan played by Ankur Rathee has a girlfriend Swati (Naila Grewal). She suggests that Amrita should take the latter to Nethra a famous lawyer and Swati’s boss played by Maya Sarao.

Nethra advises Amrita to solve the issue privately and should not take it to the court of law. Contrarily, Amrita has made her mind and she wants a divorce. So the movie is the story of what unfolds next in this drama.

Thappad Movie Review

The story is created by Anubhav Sushila Sinha and Mrunmayee Lagoo Waikul. This is a story that needs to be praised wholeheartedly. The movie shows whatever resistance a woman can when she faces violence at the hands of those who are meant to protect her.

Here Amrita acts bravely just at one slap while in society it is not even considered an act provoking a response from the female side. Yet the story and the actors’ performance accordingly shows that in a convincing and believable way.

The storyline is created in a way by the writers that leave no flaws or gaps in the tale. It reveals to us how deeply the concepts of patriarchy are imbued into our psyche and culture.

Where a man considers his better half nothing more than an object and the woman on the other hand unaware of her place as an equal human.

The dialogues are cutting and acid that leaves an impact on the listener. It begs the viewer to reflect on the standing they have on the issues. Thus attempting to convince us of the wrongdoing committed by male dominance in family relations.

Thappad is direct by Anubhav Sushila Sinha. Though with a different premise when compared to earlier works from 2018 and 2019. Yet he has given a convincing direction giving proof of his versatility of thought and expression.

The lead character and her life is well portrayed in a convincing way. At the same time movie takes along additional plots adjacent to the main one. That is done in a harmonious way and we don’t see any incongruity as the movie develops and goes towards the climax.

However, the viewers might find the post-interval development of the movie a bit drag along the time. At the same time, some might dislike the not so apologetic Vikram’s attitude towards his wife.

The whole cast has given the heart out in portraying their character. Yet the convincing Taapsee has given an impressive performance and the stage belongs to her.

Her understanding of the matter and its portrayal with expressions and delivery of the dialogues take it inches closer to a real-life scene. She deserves due credit for that.

So overall, in Thappad’s movie review, we can say that it has a lesson for society in general and the people in a relationship in particular.

It shows the deep roots of patriarchy and the stature of violence against women. How it is taken and treated in the society both by the women and men alike.

A convincing story pushed to reality by the stunning performance of the actors.
